Top Box Foods is a community-based non-profit with a simple purpose: to make healthy food affordable and accessible to all.
Our Vision
Thriving communities built on equal access to healthy food.
Our Mission
Top Box is a community-driven nonprofit that creates access to healthy and affordable food.
We offer fresh produce and other healthy groceries, support community partners in hunger and nutrition initiatives, and promote the development of a more sustainable food system.
Our Programs
TBF operates two programs–Top Box Market and Top Box Community–to fulfill needs with local partners and South Louisiana residents.
Top Box Market delivers healthy, affordable food to all. We offer fresh fruits and vegetables, high-quality proteins, and local products that are delivered directly to your door and SNAP accessible.
Top Box Community collaborates with organizations to address hunger and improve health outcomes through food. We offer customizable grocery boxes, tailored programming, and flexible delivery options that make it easy for your community to access healthy food
Our History
In 2012, Chris and Sheila Kennedy established Top Box Foods’ flagship location in Chicago.
Top Box Foods Louisiana (TBF) launched in 2013, with one mission: make healthy food accessible and affordable for all. Through Top Box Market (previously called the Makin’ Groceries Program), a bi-weekly community-hub drop off system in low food access areas, TBF delivered boxes of fresh groceries and produce to numerous community partners around the New Orleans area to increase access to fresh and affordable food.
In March of 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, TBF shifted Top Box Market from delivering to community hubs in low food access areas on a biweekly basis, to contactless home deliveries five days a week to keep the families and individuals of New Orleans and Baton Rouge as safe as possible.
As a direct response to its partner organizations’ need for support for their free food distributions throughout the pandemic, TBF created the Top Box Community, where partners utilize the organizations infrastructure and innovative supply chain to access an unlimited number of boxes for constituents who are experiencing food insecurity. In 2021, TBF delivered over 20,000 free boxes at more than 70 different events through partners like the American Heart Association, Partnership for a Healthier America, Healthy Blue, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, and more. Moving forward, TBF will continue to conduct these one-off food shares, while also introducing a supported ordering model for patients, seniors, and other individuals looking to improve health outcomes through nutritious food in partnership with health-focused organizations like Crescent Care, JenCare, AmeriHealth, Open Health Care Clinic, and more.
